We will begin the examination with ensuring that the ear canal is free of cerumen (ear wax) before proceeding with a diagnostic hearing test. During this appointment a series of tests will be completed to determine degree and type of hearing loss, if any.
Thumb Audiology stays up to date on the latest cutting-edge technology available. We work with you to find the option that best suits your needs and fits your budget.
At the hearing aid fitting appointment you will have the opportunity to trial a set of hearing aids for two weeks, no obligation. At this appointment the hearing aids will be programmed specifically for your hearing loss.
There is only one way to verify that the hearing aids are performing as programmed-by using Real Ear Measurements (REM). REM is performed by placing a probe microphone in the ear to measure the sound that is coming from the hearing aid. By measuring the sound from the ear canal, it takes into account each patients' ear canal resonance, which vary in shape and size. REM is considered the gold standard for hearing aid fitting and is an important step in the fitting process.
Thumb Audiology works with the top six hearing aid manufacturers (Phonak, Oticon, Signia, Resound, Starkey, Widex). We will do everything that we can to keep your hearing aids running at maximum performance. If your manufacturer is not listed, we may still be able to repair the devices, give us a call today!
Our ears naturally produce cerumen (earwax) to help keep dirt and debris out of the ear canal, as well as keep them moisturized. The ear naturally expels the wax by bringing it to the outer edge of the ear canal, but sometimes this natural process is not enough. If you feel that you have wax impaction, schedule an appointment today to get your ears checked!
The first step to preventing hearing loss is to have well-fitting hearing protection! With custom hearing protection an impression is taken of your ear to maximize the noise reduction rating. Both custom and non-custom options are also available with filters to allow a decrease in loudness, while preserving high frequencies for speech understanding.
